Where’s the edge? / فين حدك؟
Co-Directed and Co-Produced as part of Vice’s Female DJs series “نحن اليل” or “We are the Night”. This piece is on a young Saudi DJ who finds herself in the middle of a huge new wave of unique socio-political change, taking her energy and music with her to a new audience.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia underwent massive changes in 2019 in various practical and social sectors. This new change shocked the global community, most especially the Saudi people.
Women are allowed to drive, tourist visas are open to visitors from around the world, and restrictions on mixed-gender gathering have been relaxed. The Kingdom currently hosts many music festivals, movie theaters, with tremendous encouragement from the government for its people to hold various kinds of shows in the capital, Riyadh. We filmed this just as things were starting to open up in the Kingdom, and the energy of big change was in the air.
